The Wen is my first sharpening system. I've had it for a few years now and it has been a great addition. I use it mostly for sharpening my lathe tools and some kitchen knives. The motor noise always concerned me, but now after watching a few videos of other Tormek knockoffs it seems to be common to all. Maybe the same manufacturer making units for several companies. Regardless, it is a very alternative to the WAY over priced Tormek.

Great info. You could pick up the filings with a regular magnet, .. just manually sweep it around the bottom of the water container until all the filings are gathered up.

Ever heard of a 3" lag bolt lmao. Need to use structural screws for this.

Great video. I need to make some of these! A word of advice: Make yourself a push *shoe* instead of those push sticks. They're much easier and less stressful to use!

This fence absolutely blows. It's so easy to send it out of alignment. That bearing that runs along parallel to the tape measure, is god awful. I hate this fence. Why on earth when I'm spending 1500 on a table saw is it not rack and pinion? That's the only acceptable option for all table saws over 1000. If they can do it on 300 dollar portable ones, they can do it here too. I love mine too, but the fence drives me nuts.

This was a great video. I’ve watched several and this one is my favorite. I’m working on some wall art… sorta. LOL. I’m actually making a mobile bar cart for a friend. The front will have some geometric art. It’s simple. I have some reclaimed oak flooring. It’s only like 1/4” thick. I made a planer sled and got them all the same thickness and removed all the grime and the previous finish. I finished planing it all and I have my substrate ready to glue it onto. I had a TON of the flooring. It was gifted to me and I’ve been holding onto it. This was just the right project for it. I milled all of it so that I can make some wall art pieces as well.

Would you employ the same idea to joists in the attic? Mine has too much flex and it's causing problems with the ceiling below. I'm looking at blocking vs. sistering ... thank you

will the wood movement do any damage as the cherry wants to expand but the plywood does not?

Matt, noticed the dust collection adapter. Do you use a shop vac for dust collection(3" diameter hose)? Does it do the job well enough? That is my plan for my new saw in lieu of a dedicated larger dust collection system.

I just purchased this saw in March of 2024. I haven't used it very much yet, but so far it seems like a great saw. My previous table saw was a Ridgid TS3612 contractor saw. It worked great, but after my grandfather passed away the family decided they wanted his old shop tools...ok fine, that means I'm buying what I want LOL. So I went from a contractor saw to a hybrid cabinet saw....the Ridgid table saw extension wings weren't solid cast iron, they had crosshatch type holes throughout them, so things would fall through, or get caught in those cutouts. The Grizzly G0771Z has solid cast iron extension wings, making for a very nice smooth table top...plenty of power, although its only 1/4HP more than the Ridgid TS3612's 1.75HP, even it did everything I asked of it, even hardwoods it didn't struggle with...so I doubt the Grizzly will have any issues with the same type of usage. Once I got the saw assembled and setup, I cleaned all the shipping grease off and then I applied a coat of paste wax to the table.

I just bought this saw about a month ago. Assembly takes a while, I hate these hex head screws everything uses, lots of aggravation getting the allen wrench in just the right position to go in the openings....A regular Philips screw would work just fine for all these machines. Aside from that, assembly just takes quite a while, so yep, set aside a couple hours just to assemble the saw. I got the WEN Universal Heavy Duty Mobile Base, easy to assemble, and the saw wasn't too bad to set in the base (I have a tractor with pallet forks that I used a couple of lifting slings to pick the saw up and set on the base). I'd say the saw weighs a little over 300 pounds with everything installed, and the fence rails and fence. Its heavy, it should be heavy. I haven't used my saw much yet, still trying to get things put together in the shop, and finish the floor. I've used it enough to say, its a great saw for the money, the blade height and tilt is extremely smooth, the saw is pretty quiet, and I have mine converted to 220V, it starts up smooth, and fast...plenty of power, and mine was setup square right out of the box, I didn't have to adjust anything, but I was prepared to spend another hour doing so if I needed to. I did put a coat of paste wax on the table after I got it setup. The owner's manual is very detailed in the assembly and calibration section....the finish is great, the only thing I found is the motor cover and the holes in the cabinet don't quite line up very well, so the motor cover don't have all the screws in it LOL. I had a Ridgid TS3612 for over 20 years, it was a great saw, and was also on 220V, but it seemed a little louder, but it was also a contractor saw, so the motor stuck out the back of the saw, rather than being enclosed in the cabinet...so that might have been the noise level difference. I need to get the dust collection system done in my shop too, so I can hook the saw up to the dust collector when I get everything done. In 2024 this saw is $1200 plus $250 for shipping. So $1450...price has pretty much doubled since your video. When my saw was delivered they sent it with liftgate service which I think was $40. I unloaded it with my tractor and pallet forks....Just know that this saw weighs around 300 pounds, so you better be prepared to receive it. You aren't just gonna pick the crate up and carry it around without some sort of assistance. Another note as well, when you go to assemble it, pick a place that is nice and level, like your garage floor, makes it easier to move things around, and you'll need some elbow room to assemble the saw. The saw itself comes on a palletized type crate, while the fence assembly comes in a separate cardboard box. So, you'll be receiving 2 packages when the shipment arrives at your home or business. Make sure you get both packages LOL. The delivery company DOES NOT unload or otherwise move your machine for you. They move it to the lift gate or to the back of the truck or trailer for you to unload. They aren't Fedex or UPS, they don't bring it to your door. So, that's something else to mention, make sure wherever you are receiving the machine has room for a semi-truck/trailer combo....they've been shipping using freight carriers here lately for these large heavy items.

Im debating on getting this bandsaw but I just had to buy a new table saw, and planer. I did go cheap on the planer and got the spiral head wen planer. My band saw just stopped working so I do need one but in all reality it is a nicer one then the wen just old and I can probably fix it. The motor is making a noise but will not move so I may take it apart see if I can get it going again. It's either that or risk the wife giving me grief over buying toys. She's never said nothing to me in the past but I've made a lot of purchases recently and the last couple I've gotten the look. She has already said I have a tool addiction in play but with women you never know lol.

Is this table compatible with the ryobi plunge base router? Can I do above the table height adjustments?

A dog point set screw into he vice jaw in the area behind the ball shape on the end of the screw will fix the screw from coming out when opening the jaws. Just deep enough to capture the jaw to the screw but still let the screw spin... Or small cylindrical piece of delrin and a regular screw behind it will do the trick too...

@6:30 when you were hitting the stop block, did you notice it moved down the track 1/16" total. was the thumb screw very tight?

Great review. I’m here 5 years later during post-Covid inflation. They have an open bottom version for $850-995 depending on sales and this cabinet style for $1100-1300 depending on sales. That’s not including freight or taxes for now. It does seem to have the only full sized mobile base included of the similar hybrid/contractor saws like Delta, Ridgid, Jet, Laguna F1, Harvey, Rikon, SawStop, Makiswa, and Shop Fox. The others seem to have 3 wheel integrated lifts with mixed reviews due to having small casters. This one is the only entry level one with cast iron wings and trunions mounted to the cabinet instead of to the top at this price point that I know of too. I think that a couple of others have the upgrades offered from stamped steel but at steep price increases. I’m a hobbyist wanting to up my game from a jobsite saw without even a riving knife or splitter when the blade guard is removed for joinery cuts. While the Delta from Lowe’s with the stamped steel wings is currently the value king with best reviews at around $700, grizzly’s two hybrid options (open stand and closed cabinet) are hard to ignore. It’ll be a difficult decision when I’m ready to make that leap

Thanks for such a thorough and informative review. You have good insights and clear/accurate explanations. The aluminum fence rail is also a worry of mine, to the point that I've mostly ruled out any saw that has a cam-lever fence that doesn't clamp against steel. You say there's barely any wear on the rail, but have you confirmed that the accuracy of the fence hasn't been affected? If there's really no reason to worry about it, then that could save picky dinguses like me a bit of money when saw-shopping. Cheers!

I’ve not dealt with this saw but was wondering if the spacing on the fence guide bolts were so that you could cut the guide so the blade would travel through during change

You can get some flexible 4 inch hose and hook it to a shop vac or a dust collector. There are these cyclone devices too that mount on a trashcan and use a shop vac. Most of the stuff ends up in the trash.

This was one of the most helpful videos I have seen. I was able to do both of these to my router table. However, I did manage to break the top off of the height adjustment screw. But I took it off and ground a slot into it, so now, instead of the t-handle, I use a flathead driver. Thank you so much for the great info.

I have had this machine for about 2 years. The stropping wheel started off terrible. The leather was not attached to the plastic wheel properly and it had a huge bump in it. I removed the leather and glued on a new piece. That fixed the problem and now it works well... not perfect... but it now doesn't have the horrible bump, just a little wiggle. I get razor sharp with it. I'd say that it is well worth the price and then some, especially if compared to the Tormek. The reversing motor is very handy. The stone it came with is perfectly fine and it has not worn down much at all. It is also quiet and aside from a lot of water mess, it doesn't produce metal dust like a regular grinder. You don't need ear plugs or even eye protection when using it (although I use eye protection anyway). Some day I might get a Tormek stropping wheel or redo the Wen wheel with new leather, but for now it works just fine.

The guide guide that is attached with the knobs doesn't need to be totally disassembled. Just loosen the knobs and slide the guide off.
